Historic Lee Hall Depot
A couple of days ago, I went to a store in Newport News and rather than take the Interstate, my usual course, I decided to take Route 60. When I came to Lee Hall, I was fortunate enough to see the new site of the historic Lee Hall Depot. Sometimes, we forget the restoration efforts in our own backyard, and this gave me a reminder that through the efforts of small groups of dedicated people, great things can happen. Each of us should volunteer to help in our community causes that are near and dear to us...we each can make a difference.
Information on the Depot:
In conjunction with the City of Newport News, Virginia, The Friends of the Lee Hall Depot Foundation was formed in 2000 to move and restore the Depot.
The historic Lee Hall Depot was constructed in 1880 by the C&O (Chesapeake and Ohio) Railroad. It is the only surviving station in the Lower Virginia Peninsula.
Click on this link http://www.leehalldepot.org/history/video.html for an awesome video of the moving of the Depot. This site also tells the great history of the depot.
As I have said in recent post, I love old homes and buildings and find the history and restoration efforts fascinating. If you are like me or perhaps you are a train enthusiast, take a look at the site. I'm sure that you will find it as interesting as I.
Till another day...
